Handy Hint 92: Some Special Tricks for your iPhone's Sleep Switch
The Sleep/Wake Switch, positioned on the top of an iPhone 5S and earlier, or at the side on a iPhone 6 and 6 Plus (see arrows in below image), is the switch that you use to put your device into 'Sleep' mode, or to turn your device off completely.
But did you know that it has another couple of tricks that can be very useful when your phone rings and you are unable to take the call at that time?
Trick 1: Press Sleep/Wake Switch once when the device is ringing to quickly silence the ringing.
A quick press on the sleep/wake switch will silence the ringing, but will not stop any vibration. If you have set up your phone to 'flash' when ringing (so that you can find it in your bag!), the single press will not stop the flashing. (Here is an earlier handy hint on how to set up this flashing - very handy.)
Trick 2: Press the Sleep/Wake Switch twice when the device is ringing to send the call to voicemail
Sometimes, you want the phone to stop ringing and the caller sent straight to your Voicemail service so that they can leave a message. Just press the sleep/wake switch twice in quick succession to 'dump your caller' to voicemail.
I use this one all the time when I am in the middle something.
