Handy Hint 59: Making sure your contacts' email addresses are saved and shared between your devices
Your iPhone and iPad are very clever at remembering the email addresses of people that you correspond with. But what if you send an email to someone for the first time from your iPhone. Your iPhone will remember that email address, but your iPad won’t necessarily know about it.
To ensure that all devices know about the email addresses of the people you contact (and who contact you), and to ensure that you don’t lose all this information if you no longer have the device, it is important that you save email addresses to your Contacts app.
Your Contacts app is your Address Book on your iPhone, iPad and Mac. If you sign in to iCloud on each device and turn on the ‘Contacts’ setting in iCloud, you will find that your devices can share the same address book information. The same applies if you have a Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo or Exchange email account. By turning on the 'Contacts' feature of that account on each of your devices, you can share that account's contacts between your devices.
From the Mail app on your iPad and iPhone, it is then very easy to quickly save Contact names and email addresses to the Contacts app.
