16/4/2025 0 Comments How to add a World Clock widget to your Home Screen - so handy when you or someone you know is travellingWhen I travel, or when someone I know is travelling, I find it so handy to be able to see the time in relevant locations on my Home Screen - so that I know when is a good to to make contact.
To this end, I always have a World Clock widget readily accessible on my first Home Screen, in the Smart Stack widget that appears at the top of that screen. Here's how to create such a widget and configure it to show the time in the required locations.

16/4/2025 0 Comments Where can I find the list of iCloud Links I have created when sharing photos and videos? When showing a client the iCloud Link option for sharing photos and videos that are normally too large to send in an email (here's a handy hint on this), I went to show her where to find any previously created iCloud links - to allow a link to be re-shared or, if necessary, removed.
I am sure that such links were previously shown somewhere quite obvious in the Shared area of photos but, during the appointment, I could not locate the feature to show her. I finally found it in a location I didn't expect. Not sure when this changed, but here's where to find these shared iCloud Links if you are looking for them. 16/4/2025 0 Comments How can I share a video via email? If you have ever tried sending a video to someone via email, you will probably have found that it is not possible due to the large size of most video files - especially the videos you have taken on your iPhone or iPad. The same applies when trying to send multiple photos.
Here is a quick and easy way to share a video (or a set of photos) via email. 15/4/2025 0 Comments If you get motion sick when reading in a car, you should try this iPhone/iPad featureI have never been good at reading when travelling as a passenger in a car. It can quickly render me motion sick. Even reading on a plane can make me queasy.
So if I want to (or have to) read or watch something on my iPad or iPhone while moving, I can't keep my eyes on the screen for too long. A change that arrived with iOS/iPadOS 18 has really helped me avoid (or at least reduce) this motion sickness and allows me to now look down at my iPhone or iPad screen while in motion, often for fairly long periods. Here's what this feature looks like when it is enabled and, importantly, how to enable it. A security recommendation for our iPhones and iPads is that we restart them every few days. In fact, Apple recently introduced a security feature that automatically restarts your iPhone if it sits unused for 3 days. (Here's an article about this feature.)
It is also sometimes necessary to perform a restart to resolve a glitch you are encountering on your device. It can be real pain to turn off and restart your iPhone or iPad, involving pressing and holding buttons that can be pretty hard to press and hold. My own iPhone's cover makes pressing the exterior buttons quite difficult, and this can be especially difficult for anyone with any arthritis or other mobility or strength issues with their hands. To solve this problem I have added a 'Restart' control to my Control Centre, as shown in the image above. This is in addition to the standard Power Off control that is already available in Control Centre. I regularly see clients who are having problems accessing their mail via a the Mail app on their Mac.
They contact me because their Inbox doesn't seem to be receiving any new mail, and they can't send any emails. Here is something that is so often the incredibly easy fix to this problem. 5/4/2025 0 Comments Do I have to use the Outlook app for my outlook.com email, and the GMAIL app for my gmail.com email? This question was posed recently by an iTandCoffee Club member.
We had been talking about using the Outlook app on her computer for managing her Microsoft email account. She had assumed that, given it was an outlook.com email address, she had to use the Outlook app on all devices, including her iPhone and iPad. Similary for her other email account, which was a GMAIL account, did she have to use the GMAIL app on her iPhone and iPad? And what about on her computer, where she didn't seem to have such an app available. This is a common misunderstanding when it comes to Outlook and GMAIL accounts and the apps by the same names. One the of the most popular class topics run by iTandCoffee is the Ditch that Scanner class - where we look at all sorts of options for ditching your printer’s scanner and using a mobile devices to scan your documents and photos.
Of recent times, I have been using the built-in features of the iPhone and iPad to do my day-to-day document scanning, rather than relying on any third-party scanner. I scan all sort of things direct into Notes and use it to keep records of receipts, bills, and all sorts of other things. I also use something called a Shortcut to scan a document straight into my iCloud Drive (so that it syncs across to my Mac and can be accessed almost immediately from Finder on my Mac). Let's take a look these scanning options. A client that I saw this week was having problems with her 10 year old printer’s scanner. It had stopped working after a recent macOS update, and she could not scan documents to her Mac’s desktop using that scanner.
We tried updating the printer’s drivers, but this did not help. Rather than continuing to try to resolve this issue (or look at options for a new printer/scanner), I showed her how she could achieve that same scanning using her Mac and her iPhone - requiring less steps and effort. 2/4/2025 0 Comments Here's why I ask my questions of Copilot instead Apple's enhanced Siri (for now)In the last newsletter, I featured an article that discussed some reasons why you might choose to use Copilot if you have the feature available to you as part of your Microsoft 365 account. (Here's that article.)
Since writing that article, I have been using the Copilot app a lot more. |
