This topic has come up multiple times recently - how do you create a custom signature on the iPad or iPhone, in either Mail or Outlook.
In particular, how do you format the signature to include different fonts, sizes, colours, hyperlinks and an image or logo.

That article title sounds very complicated, I know.
But I want to tell those of you who are Mac users about a great utility on your Mac that allows you to automate activities that would normally take multiple steps and perhaps involve one or more apps - and provide a simple 'right-click' action to execute these steps. (We will separately cover how you achieve the same things on Windows and iPhone/iPad in future articles.) Here's an example ... I regularly Airdrop photos from my iPhone to my Mac so that I can use them in my blog or on my website. But the photos that come in from my iPhone are large in size and are in the heic format. This makes them unsuitable for directly uploading to my website. So I ALWAYS need to convert them to jpg format and resize them to a width of either 800px or 1200px. I can use Preview to do this resizing and conversion on an image-by-image basis. But I don't! Instead, I use something called a Quick Action that allows me to select one or several images, right-click and choose to Convert to jpg. I can also right-click a set of images and choose an action called Resize to 800px. Watch the video below for a demonstration of this and to see what I mean. 7/5/2021 0 Comments A cautionary tale ...Just last week, I received a call from a very distressed client.
She was expecting a delivery and had been tricked by one of those texts that told her she needed to pay a small amount of money to receive her delivery. It got worse from there, and resulted in the scammers gaining remote access to her computer and then accessing her bank account and attempting to steal a large amount of money from that account. This occurred when the scammers called her after she responded to that fake delivery text. I suspect it is no co-incidence that hers is one of the millions of numbers stolen from Facebook in 2018, something that Facebook has just disclosed. (Here's our recent article on this: Have your details been stolen in the recently reported Facebook Data Breach?). Those of us who have mobile numbers on that list can probably expect lots more scam texts as a result of that breach. This stressful incident highlighted to me, once again, the vulnerability of many people like her (and a large number of readers of this blog) and the risk they face every day on their technology, from scam emails, texts and fake websites.
If you are a Microsoft 365 user (or even if you are not), you can choose to use the Outlook app on your iPhone and iPad as an alternative to the standard Mail app. Just like the Mail app, Outlook can manage all your email accounts in one place.
There are some great reasons to do this - here are just some of the reasons why I choose to use it. 7/5/2021 0 Comments How to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch when wearing a mask - and ensure your Watch is secure
I have to say that I do love the FaceID feature of the newer iPhones. I have been used to the convenience of unlocking my iPhone with my Face since late 2017.
So it has been very frustrating to not be able to use this feature when wearing a mask. I usually have a very long passcode (over 10 characters) on my iPhone, and having to enter this every time I unlocked my phone while masked forced me to shorten this passcode - something I didn't really want to do from a security perspective. Apple's latest major update to iPhone and Apple Watch (described this article) means that now, when I am wearing a mask, my iPhone will use my Apple Watch to unlock my device. So I have re-instated my very long passcode on the iPhone. While I love this new feature of the Watch and iPhone, the security of my Apple Watch is now even more important that it was before - given that it can unlock my iPhone. My Apple Watch was only protected by a 4-digit passcode. I decided that, especially with this new capability of the Apple Watch, I needed to upgrade this protection to ensure it is as strong as my iPhone's strong passcode. Read on to learn how you can enable the new 'unlock' capability of your Watch and iPhone, and how you can improve the security of your Apple Watch.
As reported in the last newsletter, Apple released iOS/iPadOS 14.5 on April 27th. Also released were major updates for the Mac and Apple Watch.
I did say to hold fire for a little while before downloading and installing those major updates, which include new privacy features, support for the new AirTags, unlocking your iPhone with your Apple Watch when you are wearing a mask (we'll cover that one separately), and more. Here are articles that provides a good summary of the new features on each platform: Should you update yet?
There is a really important reason now to install the latest updates to all your Apple devices as soon as you can.
