22/11/2015 0 Comments Your friends keep getting strange emails from you after your hacked email account has been securedIn the past week, I have had two clients with issues arising from hacked Yahoo mail accounts. These clients were probably caught out by a phishing email scam, and inadvertently given away their Yahoo email address and password. As a result, many friends and contacts received a strange email from the hacked account - another 'phishing' email. This email had a link that (if clicked) would perhaps have led to the recipient also being hacked. (Here's hoping none of them fell into the trap.). Both clients had secured their Yahoo accounts by changing their account password. In one case, the client had even set up something called two-step verification, to ensure that any attempts to access her account would result in a text message being sent to her mobile. However, despite having ensured that the hackers no longer had access to the accounts, friends were contacting them days later saying that they were still getting fresh emails that were obviously suspect. This, naturally, raised the concern that the hackers still had access to their mail accounts. Did the hackers regain access to the Yahoo accounts?

Did you know that Apple offers SIM cards, called Apple SIMs, that can provide you with data access in over 90 countries while you travel?
I must have 'missed the memo' on this one, because I only just saw the below article this week - even though the article was published on July 1st 2015. For those of you who are interested in options for having mobile data access while you travel, this may be one to seriously consider.
iTandCoffee will, from next Friday 20th, be opening its doors on a fortnightly basis for our new FREE FRIDAY sessions.
From 9am to 10:30am every second Friday (with a break for Christmas), the iTandCoffee shop will be open to anyone who would like to pop in, order a cuppa, and ask a question about their technology. Hearing other people's questions, and the answers to these questions, can be a great way of learning about your own device (and broader topics related to your technology). Below are the dates that we have popped in the calendar so far for these 'FREE FRIDAY' sessions, so pop them in yours as 9 to 10:30 am on the following dates
Free Friday sessions for 2016 will be advertised in December. Of course, our ability to answer your question during this 90 minutes will depend on the number of people who also attend the session, and on the complexity of your question or issue. We will take questions on a 'first come first served' basis, and will need to ensure that as many questions as possible can be addressed. If yours is a complex issue/question, we may need to arrange a separate appointment to discuss and resolve it. You can call on 1300 885 420 to check if your question is too much for one of these sessions. We look forward to seeing you at a FREE FRIDAY session one day soon. It is not mandatory to book, but we would appreciate if you could click on the date you plan to attend (below) and provide your details. Like many of you, I received an email from Apple overnight, notifying me that the new iPad Pro is now available. I clicked on the link to take a look at how much this latest, greatest iPad would set me back. By the time you add on the 'Apple Pencil' and keyboard, it works out to around $2000! That's more that some of the MacBooks and the smaller iMac, which come with a keyboard! But then, a Mac doesn't have an 'Apple Pencil', does it. Here's the breakdown of costs for the 12.9 inch iPad Pro:
If I was going to spend the money on the iPad Pro, I would probably go for at least the 64GB version, which comes to $1683 with accessories. Although I'd be tempted to get the 128GB for $1933 with accessories. In comparison, the iPad Air 2 (without a keyboard or Apple Pencil, of course) will set you back $829 for 64GB, and $959 for 128GB. That's quite a difference in cost! Given that I already have my share of other devices, I perhaps can't justify the addition of this device to my Apple family right now. But I'll certainly be visiting the Apple Store very soon to have a look-see. However, I might need to take someone with me as my tech-conscience! An attendee at today's Getting to Know your Mac class had, before coming to the class, the distressing experience of accidentally deleting something on her Mac that she didn't mean to delete. For anyone else out there who has ever accidentally deleted something, moved it to the wrong place or made an incorrect change, here is something you really need to know. You can usually UNDO your mistake. The Undo function allows you to reverse a change or deletion that that you have made incorrectly. Just hold down the Command Key and press Z key. (You can also find the Undo option in the Edit menu of the app that you are using.) This is your 'get out of jail' key combination. And you can often hit this combination multiple times to reverse several recent changes. Commit it to memory and don't forget it. COMMAND - Z Spread the word to any other Mac users who may not know this one! (And if you are a Windows user, you can do the same thing with CONTROL-Z).) Here is a link to the article ››

If you have ever had to delete a large number of photos from your iPad or iPhone, you will know that it can be a tedious process. iOS 9 now offers a much quicker way of selecting multiple photos - much quicker than tapping each and every photo you need. Now, when you are in 'thumbnail' view (in Moments or in an Album), you can go into 'Select' mode (by tapping Select at top right) and then swipe your finger diagonally across multiple rows of photos to select them. Watch the video below to see how it is done. 10/11/2015 1 Comment Don't miss out on a free PadPod!As a limited special offer, purchase a gift voucher to the value of $100 or more and receive a free PadPod valued at $30 - one PadPod for every $100 you spend. If you, like a visitor this week to iTandCoffee, have the problem of the 'missing trash can' in your Mail app, it is because your mail account has been set up to 'Archive' mail instead of putting it in your 'Trash'. Actually, on that note, have you seen that, in iOS 9, Apple has renamed the Trash mailbox to Rubbish? This has also thrown several iTandCoffee clients. Below are the instructions for changing your Mail account setup (in this case my Gmail account) so that mail is deleted instead of archived. |
