If you are running a newer version of Microsoft Excel on Windows, you can sometimes find that it stops you from editing and saving an older Excel file - or (like an iTandCoffee business client recently found) from editing and saving a temporary Excel file created by some old software that you are running
There is a way that you can adjust Excel's file protection settings to allow you to edit and save these files. Visit the Options settings (found in the File menu). The relevant settings are found in the Trust Centre option. Watch this short video for further details.

23/12/2018 0 Comments How to quickly turn off those Notifications that pop up on your iPhone or iPadMy Christmas break allowed me the time to do a bit of a spring clean of my technology 'stuff'.
One of the things I did over the last few weeks was to clean up all those unwanted alerts and notifications that pop up on my iPhone screen. There is a really quick way of doing this straight away when such a Notification appears - and you don't even need to unlock your device. Find out how in the Handy Hint for iTandCoffee Club members. (Not yet a member? Find out more about The iTandCoffee Club here.) There is an app for every occasion!
When it came time to draw the winner of the iTandCoffee Club prize draw, we had a thought! Wouldn't it be great if there was an app that could draw the winner for us. Of course there is. The app we used is called Lucky Raffle. And here is the video of the prize draw - and the winder of the brand new 6th Generation iPad, drawn today at our final iTandCoffee Club session for the year today (14/12/18).
In the last newsletter, we discussed the question Should you upgrade your Mac to Mojave yet?
If you read that article and have decided that you are ready to take the plunge (after, of course, having backed up your Mac) the steps involved are relatively simple - and upgrading is free (as long as you are currently running OS X Mountain Lion or later). We have recorded a detailed video that describes how to perform such an upgrade and it is now available as part of the new Mastering your Mac - Troubleshooting and Housekeeping video tutorial set (which are always available to all Premium members of The iTandCoffee Club). For the month of December 2018, this set of videos is available to all iTandCoffee Club members. Watch the How to Upgrade your Mac video by selecting the button below.

Set a New Year's Resolution to learn about your Mac!

If you were an avid Apple Photo Books user, I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
Just in case you hadn't heard, you can no longer order a photo book through Apple - even if you have it created and ready to go. Don't despair - you won't have to start all over again. You can still print that book that you had just spent hours creating. A quick little ‘life hack’ for work or home is to share a reminder list where all invitees can add, delete and check off items as completed – all instantly appearing on everyone’s devices.
A great idea for family grocery lists and shared to-dos amongst family members, but for businesses too! 7/12/2018 1 Comment NBN Scam Alert - and how to check when NBN is REALLY going to be available at your placeBy Heidi Mitchell During the week, one of our very own iTandCoffee clients received a phone call from an automated voice telling her that the Internet was going to be disconnected due to the NBN being connected and that she needed to call a number to resolve this. She hung up immediately due to a ‘gut feeling’ that something was off – great call! First of all, NBN will never phone you out of the blue to try to sign you up to a service over its network. You will receive a letter in the mail advising you when NBN is going to be available and of any disconnection. There is a site you can go to verify when NBN is scheduled to be available at your own address - and the date by which you need to switch over. |
