27/5/2021 0 Comments Outlook gets stuck trying to synchronise iCloud folders - and calendars won't sync
On Windows, it is possible to see your iCloud Mail, Contacts and Calendars in Outlook.
This is achieved by installing the iCloud app from the Microsoft Store, and signing in to your iCloud. Just recently though, I have been asked to assist with Outlook sync'ing issues relating to iCloud - where a sync error occurs in Outlook, and there are resulting issues with sync'ing of mail folders, Calendars and, perhaps, Contacts. These sync issues can sometimes mean that Outlook doesn't close properly, and then won't open next time. (Note. This separate iTandCoffee article covers what to do if Outlook won't start.) Here's what to try if this happens to you.

24/4/2021 0 Comments How to easily change your Apple ID's password (for iCloud, iTunes, App Store etc)If you have forgotten your Apple password (the one you use for iCloud and/or iTunes/App /store purchases) - or if you need to change it for some other reason - it is very easy to reset your password directly from your iPad, iPhone or Mac if you have enabled something called 'two-factor authentication' (TFA).
If you have a large file that you need to send to someone else - and if that file is too large to send in an email - what options do you have for sending the file, especially if you don't use another 'cloud' product like Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive?
Easy! You can use your iCloud to Share the file, assuming you have enough storage in your iCloud for that file. But there is another option that allows you to share large files without even needing an iCloud allowance to support them. 4/3/2021 23 Comments I keep getting a message showing a sign-in is requested from a strange location. If you have you been confused about why Apple sometimes shows that your device is in some other location, you are not alone. This article was first published December 2016, and is one of iTandCoffee's 'most read' articles. In particular, the message you receive says that 'Your Apple ID is being used to sign in to a device near ...' and shows a location that may not be your current location. More recently, the location has shown 'near Melbourne'. It used to show 'near St Kilda Road' (which I am not). iTandCoffee gets asked about this one on a very regular basis. When I originally wrote this article, it was my own Mum who was confused by it. Her Messages was failing to complete activation because she kept was choosing the 'Don't Allow' when shown a message on her iPad - a message indicating that someone was attempting to access her account 'near St Kilda Rd'. This was confusing, given she lived in Clayton - so she she though it best to go with 'Don't Allow' every time it popped up. Why do I get a message that shows a sign-in has been requested at some other location? When you have a collection of photos that you want to share with others, how do you achieve this without having to send all the photos to those other people? Your collection of photos may be to large to send in an email.
There is a feature of the Photos app on all Apple devices that allows the sharing of an Album via your iCloud. In the video short tutorial below, we look at how to use useful feature on the iPad and iPhone - including the latest screens from iOS / iPadOS 14.
One of the regular topics of discussion at our iTandCoffee User Group is 'the cloud' - and the various Cloud services that are available. What are they, why would you use them, and resolving issues with them.
During the special User Group held during filming of the Channel 9 News story, we looked at these topics. The video of this discussion and demonstration has been uploaded to the iTandCoffee Club members area, and is available for any members to view - just use the button below. One of the great benefits of using Apple devices is their ability to 'talk to' each other.
Our Apple devices include a feature called Continuity. Continuity allows you to start something on one device and finish it on another - for example, start an email on your iPhone and finish it on your Mac. (We'll cover how this aspect of Continuity works in a future Handy Hint!) There is a particular Continuity feature that I use every day to save on typing, when signing in to apps and accounts on my Mac that need a two-factor authentication code from an Authenticator app on my iPhone.
The topic of backups came up several times over the last couple of weeks, I have decided to re-publish the below article on this topic from November 2017, still relevant on today's iOS devices.
So many people that we see at iTandCoffee have never considered doing a backup of their iPad or iPhone. This puts them at great risk of losing their photos, messages, and lots of other information stored on their device.
While using iCloud can ensure that certain information is always protected from device loss or damage (through sync'ing of key information like Contacts, Calendar, Notes, Reminders, etc), not everything can be restored if a disaster strikes. These disasters could come in the form of a dropped or stolen device, a malfunctioning device, a forgotten passcode, or a failed update or upgrade. It is very easy to back up your iPad or iPhone - in fact, it can happen 'magically' each day, without you even thinking about it. This is done using a feature of iCloud called 'iCloud Backup'. Have you been suffering from Photo Syncing problems on your iPhone, iPad and/or computer?
When you plug your iPhone (or iPad) into your computer, are you told that there are no photos to import - even though you know that you just took some new photos! Where are your photos?
No sooner does one School Year finish and we’re thinking about the next.
For many parents with children heading off to secondary school for the first time, it is perhaps time to consider a first mobile phone for their child. It is also very common these days for even primary school children to carry a smartphone. It may also be the year that your child starts using an iPad, Mac or Windows laptop at school. Here are some things to think about before you hand over any of this type of technology to your child |
