Apple announced on June 4th at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that it will be delivering some new features focused on improving our 'digital health'.
In particular is the news that parents will be able to limit their children's screen time - a feature that many parents have been wanting for such a long time, often paying money to use third-party parental control services that provide such a feature.
Here is an article from Engadget about this new feature.
It is reported that you will also be able to get reports that will show where you are spending all your tech time, and you will be able to get alerts about apps on which you are spending too much time - and better control just how many notifications are popping up on your screen.
Here is another article about that feature.
There are several other exciting features coming later this year as part of Apple's Spring upgrade season. I'll write about these in separate articles.
If you are keen to find out more, here is a list of articles on the topic of iOS 12. Some also include details of the planned Mac upgrade - MacOS Mojave (10.14).
Keeping kids safe on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch
The topic of how to keep kids safe on mobile devices and how to control/monitor their usage is one we cover at iTandCoffee's Keeping Kids Safe on the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch workshop, which we run regularly at schools throughout Melbourne.
The great new 'screen time' features will be covered as part of these sessions from September, when the new features will become available. We are taking bookings now for sessions in Term 3 and 4. Book a session for your own school now.
