If your email account is with Bigpond, Optus, iPrimus, iiNet, Netspace and several others, you may have noticed issues with accessing content of some of your mail messages under iOS 9, on both your iPad and iPhone.
Here are the symptoms of this problem.
This problem is only associated with older style email accounts - POP email accounts. You won't find the same problem if your account is a Gmail, Outlook, Hotmail, Yahoo, iCloud, or other IMAP style of email account.
Why is this happening, and how do I fix it?

This issue may give you the impetus to think about moving away from your older style of mail account, and instead take advantage of the features of newer email accounts. Read more below.
While we are on the topic of POP vs IMAP mail accounts
The above issue came up at an iTandCoffee class this week, where we were looking at the Mail app. The problem affected several of the attendees at that class.
But what also annoyed those who have these older style email addresses, is that they have to manage their mail in more than one place - ie. if they read or delete on one device, this has no effect on the same message on another device.
Another problem raised was that, when a new device is connected to their old POP email account, they get an enormous download of emails that they had already read or deleted - messages they don't want to see on their new device.
Additionally, they are not able to set up 'email folders' for saving away emails - something that they would be able to do if they had an IMAP style mail account.
Permanently solving your POP mail woes
