I just saw an article, published overnight, about some new features now available in iCloud.
If you accidentally delete Contacts, Calendar entries, Reminders or files from your iCloud, you can get them back. Here is the article published yesterday by Macworld.

14/8/2015 0 Comments Come along and hear why I love Dropbox so much! Free for iTandCoffee Club membersOnce again this week, I have been raving about how much I love Dropbox. Twice this week, Dropbox has saved me so much time and aggravation. I was working on a set of similar documents, so each time I created a new document, I was opening an existing document, and performing a 'Save As' to create a new version. However, in my rush during the week, I had twice forgotten to perform the 'Save As' and had saved the new document 'over the top of' the old document. So, when I went back to look a couple of the documents, they were not correct! Never fear! Dropbox to the rescue. I was able to very easily retrieve and restore my 'previous version' of the document! With the amount of articles I dedicate to Dropbox, it must be time to run a free one-hour information session on it for iTandCoffee Club members. (Non members can attend for $30.) I have scheduled this for Monday October 12th at 9:30am. If there is enough interest, I will look to book a further session in October. Find out more and book here >> Important: Members will need to enter a members only Coupon Code, which can be obtained from 'The Club House' web page before you book. Yes I know. Here I go again, talking about passwords. Passwords are one of the most frustrating aspects of what I do, and of living in this online and high-tech world. While I pretty much have my own passwords under control (safely stored and easily accessible when I need them), I am EVERY DAY dealing with other peoples' forgotten passwords or the consequences of them inadvertently giving away a key password that then provides the 'bad guys' open slather access to their online world. So often in iTandCoffee appointments and classes, forgotten (or unknown) passwords stop us in our tracks. So here I go again. Please get a 'password safe' app to store your passwords, ensure that your passwords are strong and unique for each account, and store them all in this safe. The app that you will have seen me recommend previously is the FREE app 1Password, for your iPad and iPhone. It can also be purchased and downloaded on your computer (should you wish to have access to it from all your technology). The idea is that you only need to remember ONE password - like remembering the combination to a safe - and all your other passwords will be safely stored in the secure safe. Visit the app store and download it today. A feature of 1Password that I only just discovered! I had an 'OMG - that's great' moment when showing a client how to use 1Password just this week. I discovered that, when you are using Safari and other key apps on your iPad and iPhone and need to enter a password, you don't need to switch to the 1Password app to look up your password. 1Password provides something called an 'extension', which is accessible from the Share option (the option that you use to send/print/copy etc). So, when a password is requested, just tap the Share option, tap 1Password, enter your 1Password password, and tap on the name of the password you require. Magically, your password will then be filled in for you, without you having to copy and paste or type it in. (Note. Other 'password keepers' may also provide the same 'extension' feature.) Tips for creating a good 'master password' for your Password Safe The creators of 1Password, Agilebits, have and excellent article on to the topic of passwords and, in particular, for setting 'master passwords. Check out the link below. I think we need a free session on this one This topic comes up so regularly that I will shortly be organising a free session for iTandCoffee Club members, where we will 'workshop' setting up and using a password safe. If you think you'd be interested in attending such a workshop in the near future, email me at bookings@itandcoffee.com.au.
Just this week, I found my little 11-inch Macbook Air was bulging at the seams and needed a bit of a clean out!
So, I spent quite a bit of time getting rid of all sorts of files that didn't need to be kept. But, after all that work, my Mac showed that there was still a lot of 'Other' space filled up with who knows what. It was then that I realised that, in assisting clients with various problems, I had a few times done iTunes Backups of their devices. Some of these devices had quite large storage capacity and usage, meaning that I probably had a large amount of space being taken up with iTunes backup I no longer needed. Find out in this week's handy hint just what I was able to do the 'clear out' these un-needed backups, and free up about 40GB of space on my little Mac!!
Not yet a member of the iTandCoffee Club?
Why not join today to view a vast number of handy hints like this, and to have access to other great 'members only' offers and products - including free sessions at iTandCoffee in Glen Iris. This question came up again this week, from a client in Glen Iris who has appalling internet speed via their ADSL connection at home. As the kids in the family get older and there is more and more demand on the home internet, this issue with speed and connectivity has been causing a great deal of stress. I was asked to check into whether there is the possibility of getting faster internet at their home. I figure there may be many other people out there with the same question, so I will share how I worked out that they certainly could be getting a much better service than what they currently have. If your ADSL speed is terrible, it is probably to do with the quality of your phone line and/or the distance of your home from the exchange. Peak times for internet traffic an also dramatically impact speed and performance. So my first advice to anyone in this situation is to check if they can get a Broadband Cable connection instead of ADSL. In some areas, you may also have access to the NBN. Not all suburbs and streets will have access to cable. But you can easily perform a couple of online checks to see which (if any) of the major Telco provides a cable service to your address.
If you are lucky enough to qualify for cable (or NBN), just call your Telco (or place an online order) to get the ball rolling towards faster internet. If you do not have access to Cable or NBN services, maybe this article will help you to improve the speed of your existing ADSL service. If you need help with navigating any of this, please don't hesitate to call iTandCoffee ofn1300 884 420! You may have seen me mention previously an app that features on my first Home screen, called Card Mate. In this app, I store images and details of all the cards that would normally ALL be in my wallet, allowing me to greatly reduce the number of cards that I carry around with me. I have categories for Business Cards, Identity, Banking, Shopping and more - allowing me to easily find any card that I need to present or view. In most cases, shops can scan the barcode shown on the screen or, if they can't, they can still manually enter the number shown on the card. Of course, this is not the only app that provides such capabilities. Another that is worthwhile downloading is called StoCard - Loyalty Cards Wallet. (Thanks Katie K for suggesting this one.) This app is the perfect app for storing all those shopping loyalty cards. It is really easy to scan all your shopping cards (or any other card that has a barcode) into the app. Download and check it out here. I am thinking I might now need two 'card apps' on my home screen! If you ever need to check your voicemail from another phone - for example when you are travelling, and perhaps are not using your usual SIM in your phone - you can easily retrieve your voicemails remotely from any phone. Just dial your own phone number and, when your voicemail message starts, press the # key to access your voicemail. You may need to do some initial setup to make this feature work - for example, to set a 'pin' that you then enter to gain access to your messages after selecting the '#'. I used this handy feature when travelling overseas recently, when I did not have my regular Telstra SIM in my phone. I also used it more recently when my husband and I went away overnight on a weeknight, and I forgot to take my iPhone (!). I was able to check my voicemail regularly from his phone, to make sure I responded to any client calls that needed attention. (Thanks Katie K for this handy hint suggestion.)
