(This topic came up in a discussion about Facebook again this week, so I am re-publishing this article from May 2020.)
An iTandCoffee client asked today if there is a way of blocking posts from a 'prolific' poster without removing that person as a friend. The answer is that Yes, this can be done - by Unfollowing that person.

9/9/2021 0 Comments On Facebook, are you giving away identity info, answers to secret questions, and passwords?
Every day on Facebook, I see the posts that are seeking to steal information from my Facebook Friends.
The posts look innocent enough - perhaps even fun. Quizzes where you share information about yourself with your friends or prove how good your memory is. And I see my Facebook Friends getting caught out by these posts, and 'joining in the fun'. But here's why you should never engage with posts like this - why they can be very dangerous. This week, the iTandCoffee Facebook Page got caught up in the Facebook battle with the Australian Government - blocked from posting anything for several days, and all posts - 9 years' worth - gone. The page showed 'No posts yet' - as if it was a new page that had never posted.
There was no warning, no explanation, nothing. Just suddenly blocked from posting and everything gone. I am so appalled at this abuse of their market power - to use blackmail to influence government decisions, and be willing to take down, without warning, small business pages and other non-news pages in their fight with the government.
iTandCoffee recently presented on the topic of A look at Facebook for Business at the Tourism Network Yarra Valley 2018 Conference at Healesville, at the beautiful Worawa Aboriginal College. This was our second year presenting to this group.
The presentation was aimed at the small business owners/operators who attended, many of whom struggle to understand Facebook and how to reach their Facebook audience.
Recently, I have been seeing a huge number of my Facebook friends friend re-posting the same post (or slight variations thereof) - stating that Facebook is limiting posts from their friends and that, getting friends to leave a comment or sticker in response to their post will force Facebook to show posts from a wider range of their friends
11/4/2018 0 Comments Have you checked yet if your Facebook Data was shared with Cambridge Analytica? No doubt you have heard all about the Cambridge Analytical scandal - the unauthorised use of the Facebook data belonging to millions of people.
Facebook has made it possible now for you to easily check if your data was shared as part of this breach. Below is a 1-minute video that shows you where to look in your iPhone's Facebook app. Alternatively, select this link to perform a quick check from your web browser of whether your privacy was breached. I just went to Facebook on my Mac to post some information about our upcoming Introduction to the iPad and iPhone (which we are running from Weds 14th Feb 10am), and noticed a new feature on the top toolbar.

It relates to how you can control those videos on Facebook that seem to automatically play - even when you are using your mobile data. This can waste a lot of your precious data. It is possible to change this, so that videos only play when you are on a Wi-Fi network. You can even say that you don't want any auto-playing of videos. This is a members-only tip for iTandCoffee Club members.
