It has been a longer wait than usual for the latest upgrade for iPad. Normally iPad upgrades are released at the same time as the iPhone, but this was not the case in September.
Instead, the release of iPadOS 16 will occur on October 25th (Aus time). Same applies for the latest Mac upgrade, macOS 13 Ventura.
Apple also announced a new set of iPads - providing a significant update to basic iPad, and also updating the iPad Pro.
Below are some articles about these upgrades and the new iPads. And we'll schedule some sessions to look at the new iPad and Mac features in the near future, so keep an eye out for news on this.

It's strange how you just don't notice certain things that appear on screens.
I love my Apple Watch, and regularly answer calls on the Watch while I look for my iPhone.
But it can be awkward talking into my Apple Watch while I scramble to find my iPhone, especially if it is a business call.
I have just discovered a better way to handle these calls.

If you have ever had to work on your MacBook when away from home, you may well have used the Personal Hotspot feature of your iPhone to 'share' the iPhone's mobile internet connection with your Mac.
This week, a client was having trouble getting Mac to connect to her iPhone's Hotspot, and needed a really quick solution before she went into a meeting.
Here's what I got her to do.
An iTandCoffee Club member contacted me this week because she had been working on a really important document, and had found it suddenly didn't look right.
Normally she could see her document in a format that represented how the pages would look when printed. But suddenly it was in some strange other format. She worried that she had 'broken' it.
Of course she hadn't. She was just viewing her document in a different layout.

Have you watch the disturbing 10Play program, Mirror Mirror?
It "investigates how the internet is affecting our relationships and what impact this is having on our lives."
It start straight away by talking about the Omegle website, a site that many parents are totally oblivious to.
This website allows anyone to 'Talk to Strangers' - and those strangers could be disgusting people who are targeting vulnerable children.
I received a message today from a cybersafety educator and his psychologist sister, Marty and Carly McGuaran. Marty and Carly run a wonderful business called Inform and Empower, and regularly present to school parents on digital wellbeing and safety. We have previously consulted on the topic of parental controls on Apple devices.
Carly and Marty contacted me today after viewing the Mirror Mirror program, to let me know that they have noticed a major flaw in the Screen Time controls that Apple provides for setting parental controls.

With the recent concerning news of the Optus data breach, the topic of managing passwords for online accounts inevitably gets discussed - and I have been asked a couple of times this week about how I manage my own passwords.
I store all my account passwords in one place, and they automatically sync across all my devices and auto-fill in my web browser whenever I need them, as long as I can provide my fingerprint, Face ID or device password. And I can look them up any time from any of my devices if I need to know what they are.
Here's what I use.

Over the next few newsletters, we will be looking at the great new features of iOS 16, which arrived in September.
Last newsletter, we looked at the new Lock Screen and Wallpaper features. In this newsletter, we look at the Photos app - and I know one feature in particular will be very popular with those who love their photos.
I received an email this morning, saying that I have a myGov refund.
I don't really! This is definitely a scam, an example of the many that are out there these days.

As many of our readers will already know, we ran an information session about the Optus data breach on Tuesday Oct 4th - to provide advice and information about this breach and what to do in its aftermath.
We have now uploaded the video of this 45 minute session, and included the summarised notes that were sent to the attendees. Here's how to access this content.
