In Part 2 of the OneDrive Boot Camp held recently, one of the topics that we covered was how to share files and folders using your OneDrive - especially so that you don't have to send large files in emails.
OneDrive allows you to do this from your Windows File Explorer or Mac Finder. Here's how.

19/7/2020 0 Comments iCloud Photos on a Windows computer - and why your computer says there are no photos to import from your iPhoneJust last week, I was assisting a client with her Photos on Windows. She was finding that, even though her iPhone was plugged into her Windows computer, she was being told that there were no photos to import. She knew she had 1000's on the iPhone.
Why was her computer saying that she had no photos? And how could she get those photos across to her Windows computer, so that she could manage them from her Photos app on Windows?
Here's a tip about something that I use all the time, to easily get certain emails - most commonly, receipts and tax invoices - into a PDF format, so that I can save them with all my other receipts.
It is not obvious from the Mail app on the iPad and iPhone just how this is possible, as there is no 'save to PDF' option provided. And there is no 'share' option available.
When browsing your photos in the Photos app on the iPhone or iPad, you may come across a photos that would be a lovely background - or Wallpaper - for your Lock screen or Home screen.
You can always adjust these background by visiting Settings -> Wallpaper, and then finding that photo amongst your long list of photos. You might consider making it a Favourite so that you can more easily find it when doing this. But there is a much easier way to set a photo as your Wallpaper directly from the Photos app.
If you find the topic of filing on your Mac a bit of a 'glorious mystery', then you are not alone. It is such a common issue for clients of iTandCoffee.
If you have never had school/business experience or training on the topic of files and folders - and how to use them to organise all the information on your computer - then you may find that you are at a total loss about how to ensure you can find your files when you need them. Your Desktop may be covered with files. Or you may simply rely on your Recents to to find the last file/s you were working on. This can really get you into a knot! If this sounds like you, don't worry - you are very normal! We have something for you that we know will help. 18/7/2020 0 Comments Setting up 'text replacements' in Microsoft Office on Mac - and copying the list to a new MacOne of the features I make huge use of on my Mac (and my iPad and iPhone) is the 'text replacement' feature - where, by typing a few characters, I get a longer phrase automatically filled in.
For example, typing eitc immediately turns into enquiry@itandcoffee.com.au. Typing witc immediately turns into www.itandcoffee.com.au. I have replacements for my address, phone number, ABN, and much more. It saves so much typing and the need to lookup information that is not committed to memory. By setting up these replacements on my Mac, they automatically sync through to my iPad and iPhone (and vice-versa). Here's a previous handy hint on this topics, for members of our iTandCoffee Club. (Find out more about the iTandCoffee Club here.) Setting this up in my Mac's System Preferences means that all Apple Apps on my Mac can utilise the text replacements. However, the same set of text replacements don't work in my Microsoft apps (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) - which are the apps that I use heavily on a day-to-day basis. Here's how to set up the same replacements in your Microsoft products and, if you get a new Mac and don't restore from a backup (as was the case for me recently), how you get the long list of replacements you have created across to the new Mac.
A friend contacted me this week asking for help in relation to a MacBook that had been dropped and, as a result, had a screen that wasn't working. The concern was whether it was just the display that had been damaged, or whether the Mac's hard drive had also been damaged.
When I asked whether there was a backup for the MacBook, my friend said that he thought that iCloud was backing up the Mac. This is something that I know many people have a misconception about - figuring that, because iCloud looks after backing up of Apple mobile devices and is also installed on the Mac, that it also does the backing up of the Mac as well. Here's the truth about iCloud and Mac backups.
This one was last published December 2019, but I am including it again because it came up as a question at our iPad and iPhone User group last week.
In the past, when you 'downloaded' a PDF when using Safari on the iPad or iPhone, you would have the option to choose what to do with the download - for example, whether to 'Open in Books'. With recent changes to the iPhone/iPad operating system, the way that downloads work has changed - and you may find your downloads appear to have disappeared into a black hole! Club members Sylvia S had a question about Google at this week's iPad & iPhone user group session.
She had recently received an email to say that her Google account was nearly full and that, if she doesn’t clean it out, she will soon be unable to send/receive emails for her Gmail account. Her question was: “How do I work out what is filling up my Google account and then clear out storage”. While it may just be a lot of mail that is filling up the Google account, it can sometimes be other content that is the culprit – for example, photos. So, where do you go to look at the content of your Google account? Client Marg R asked me to cover this topic about the Pages app.
She was struggling to work out how to add a new Page to her document, and then how to remove pages that she does not need. So I have recorded a video tutorial that goes through these topics for both iPad and for Mac. |
