My All Inboxes has disappeared from Mail - how to get it back, and manage Favourites

Picture
If you are a Mac Mail user who has more than one Mail account, you will hopefully make good use of the All Inboxes option in the Favourites section of the sidebar - allowing you to see all incoming mail in one place, or see each Inbox individually underneath the All Inboxes heading.

But what if this All Inboxes disappears - or if you've never had it? How do you enable (or re-enable) this?

How to easily uncover a forgotten email password on your Mac

Picture
A client who visited iTandCoffee last week needed help with her mail password. She wanted to add the account to her new iPhone and iPad, but did not know the password. Her Mac 'knew' the password and allowed her to manage her mail, but she couldn't find a record of that password.

This is a very common problem, especially for mail accounts that have been in use for a long time.

If you are not sure of your email account password, your Mac may allow you to look it up - and save you a call to your email provider. If your mail is with the likes of Optus or Telstra, it is certainly a relief to save yourself from such a call!

How can I re-create a Word document from a PDF?

Picture
This question came up on Friday last week. A client had a PDF version of a really important legal document, but needed the Word version so that she could make some urgent changes. Unfortunately, the Word version of the document was nowhere to be found.

Fortunately there was such an easy solution to her problem.

How to show a slideshow as your Windows Desktop background

Picture
This was a query from an iTandCoffee Club member this past week.

She asked if I could include information about how to change the picture that is used as the background on her windows computer, and maybe even show a personalised slideshow.

This is done from your computer's Settings, from the Personalisation option. You will then see the Background option in the sidebar.

Hiding photos that you don't want visible in your Photos timeline

Picture
Have you ever taken a photo that, while you need to keep it, you don't really want it to appear in your 'timeline' of photos or your 'Recents' view?  An example might be not-so-pleasant medical-type photos. For me, it was screenshots of internet outages and speed tests. I needed to keep these photos, but really didn't want to see them in my Photos timeline.

There is an easy way in the Photos app on the iPhone, iPad and Mac that you can remove such images from 'plain sight'.

How to send several photos or videos as an 'iCloud Link'

Picture
When you have a significant numbers of photos and/or video/s to send to someone else, the overall size of the content can prevent you sending using Mail, Messages and other methods.

Something that you may not have noticed in the Share menu of the Photos app is the option to Copy iCloud Link. This option will be visible if you have turned on iCloud Photos.

What this means is that you can select some photos/videos and then, instead of sending that content as part of the message, copy and send a link to a temporary web page in iCloud that contains the photos. This web page is then available for 30 days, after which it disappears.

This means that you are sending a tiny message size-wise, and the recipient can choose when to tap/click the link to view the photos/videos and - if they desire - download them.

Cleaning up a Burst of photos on the iPad and iPhone

Picture
The Camera App of the iPad and iPhone provides a handy feature, to take a Burst of photos - rapid-fire photos that allow you to capture movement, the best smiles, etc.

Bursts are also taken when you use the Camera app's timer.

While it is a great feature, you can end up with lots of excess Burst photos that you don't really need to keep - and that can use up quite a bit of your storage.

Here's how to clean up these Bursts.
