Now this is an Excel feature I wish I had discovered earlier!

Picture
I am a big-time Excel user. And I thought I had a pretty good understanding of most of its features. So I can't believe I didn't discover this one until I prepared Part 8 of the Excel Boot Camp series.

It relates to the full capabilities of a feature called Flash Fill.

What iPhone should I get? And should I get one now?

Picture
iPhone SE (with Home Button) alongside iPhone X (no Home Button)
A few clients have asked me recently what phone I would recommend for them.

If you are thinking of getting a new phone, it would be worth holding off for another few weeks if you can - as the new range of iPhones is set to be announced (if rumours are true) in another couple of weeks. These phones will all be versions that have FaceID and are minus a Home Button.  I'm sure they will all have excellent cameras, and they will most likely be 5G enabled.

But I know that many of you prefer an iPhone that still has a Home Button and TouchID.

Should I upgrade to iOS 14 yet (or iPadOS 14)?

Picture
Update 14/10/20:

iOS 14.0.1 seems to quite stable and should be relatively safe for
those of you waiting to upgrade. Apple is shipping iOS 14.0.1 with its new iPhone 12s that can be pre-ordered on Friday this week, so that's a good sign for the stability of the release.

Here's a video
from Apple on how to upgrade. Of course, always make sure you have a backup before you upgrade.
Here is Apple's video that takes you through how to back up your mobile device to iCloud.

Previously published 27/9/20:

You probably already know that the latest upgrade to the iPhone and iPad (and Apple Watch) operating systems is now available - iOS 14 for iPhone and iPadOS for 14 iPad.

I always recommend that, given that new upgrades often contain 'glitches', it is worth waiting for at least a little while before you install the new operating system. For this year's upgrade, there was also the issue that Apple released it very quickly after it was announced, meaning that many developers of Apps were not quite ready to release their App update to support this new operating system. There was an increased risk that some apps might not initially work.

Fixes have been released already by Apple

Only 8 days after the Sept 17th release of iOS 14/iPadOS 14, Apple then released (on 25/9) to fix some early issues. iOS / iPadOS 14.0.1 is now available for download and installation.

Sharing an Album of photos - from your iPad or iPhone

Picture
When you have a collection of photos that you want to share with others, how do you achieve this without having to send all the photos to those other people? Your collection of photos may be to large to send in an email.

There is a feature of the Photos app on all Apple devices that allows the sharing of an Album via your iCloud.

In the video short tutorial below, we look at how to use useful feature on the iPad and iPhone - including the latest screens from iOS / iPadOS 14.

Some great Word features that you only get with Microsoft 365

Picture
With the upcoming end of support for Office 2016 in October 2020, I have spoken with several clients over the past couple of weeks about upgrading their current version of Microsoft Office. The question most people ask is which version to get.

I know many people balk at the idea of paying an annual subscription instead of purchasing the 'one-off' license.

I outlined in an article last newsletter just why I do recommend the subscription model (see Office 2016 (and earlier) support is ending soon - are you ready for this?).

What I didn't mention was the features that are included in Microsoft 365 only, that are not available if your purchase that one-off license - features that really make it worth investing in the subscription version.
