Now, I know this one might be a bit too obvious. But it's amazing how often I forget to do it and miss out on getting the best photo I can.
Because we are constantly handling our iPhones (or other smartphones), it is so easy to end up with dust, dirt or fingerprints all over the camera lens. Each of the photos shown in this article suffers from the effects of the lens being dirty. Sometimes, there is no opportunity to re-take them! Especially when the sun or lights are involved, the result can be a very 'washed out' photo.

Have you ever tried to match a colour on your Mac?
A perfect example for a client recently was that she wanted her name in her email signature to be the same colour as that of her logo, but couldn't quite get the right orange. There is a really easy way to do this, and it is available in any app that allows a colour to be chosen. I must say that I use this one on a very regular basis! Find out more in this Mac tip for members of The iTandCoffee Club. You may have seen recent articles in the press about the increasing incidence of mobile number porting - where a person's mobile number is moved to a different mobile service provider by an unknown person. If this happens, you suddenly find you no longer have mobile service. You may first receive a message that tells you the porting is happening - generally when it it is too late to stop it.
How can number porting happen? What benefit can a thief get from stealing a mobile number belonging to someone else.
When you want to sent a hyperlink to a web page as part of an email, it is nice to be able to put some text like "Click here to view the article" instead of what might be a very long-winded URL (i.e. the address of the web page).
Let me explain what mean. As an example, I have an link to a web page that has an interesting article about Women in Technology, and I want to send this article to a friend. I could just copy and paste the following link into the email. https://timeline.com/women-pioneered-computer-programming-then-men-took-their-industry-over-c2959b822523?gi=e05845aed6d7. Alternatively, I can type the "Here is a good article about women in technology" and add a link behind the text so that it looks like this
Here is how to add the link to text in the email.

Have you ever wondered why you get two versions of the same photo on your iPhone or iPad, even though you thought you had only taken one? Above is one that I took just now - identical, except that the second shows the letters HDR at top left.
Newer iPhones have a great Camera feature called HDR - High Dynamic Range - which can really enhance your photos in tricky lighting situations. 12/6/2019 0 Comments How do you export photos from Mac's Photos app to a folder, USB stick or external hard drive? This question comes up very regularly from Mac users. Just this week, I assisted a client who needed to get here photos downloaded from iCloud Photo Library without turning on iCloud Photo Library on her Mac. (Here's a separate article describing how to do this.)
Does your iPad or iPhone have the correct name? Or does it have the generic name of iPad or iPhone?
When you use features like Airdrop and Personal Hotspot, it is essential that your device is named so it can be distinguished from other devices. A generic name for the device could make it hard to identify it if you are in a crowded place where lots of other iPhones and iPads are 'broadcasting' their names. If you ever need to set up a time to talk to someone in a different country, looking at your own availability and then working out the equivalent time in that other location can be a challenge.
The World Clock in the standard Clock app is great for working out the current time at other locations around the world. But it doesn't give the option of putting in a future time and seeing the equivalent time at other locations. The good news is that, as is usually the case, there is an app for that. Have you been suffering from Photo Syncing problems on your iPhone, iPad and/or computer?
When you plug your iPhone (or iPad) into your computer, are you told that there are no photos to import - even though you know that you just took some new photos! Where are your photos? |
