You may have already read one or more of the articles we have published about email 'sending' issues suffered by iTandCoffee clients, especially for email accounts like Bigpond, Optus, etc. We regularly deal with clients who use Google to find a phone number for Technical Support, finding results that gave a phone number for 'Bigpond Technical Support' or for 'Microsoft Technical Support'. The question is: Did they really call Bigpond and Microsoft, or did they get a business that pretends to offer this support? One of the clients did get caught out and call a fake 'Bigpond Support' number.

30/1/2023 0 Comments A feature of the iPhone and iPad helps you protect your privacy - Approximate LocationImage by Free-Photos from Pixabay Those of you who follow this blog will know that I have previously written an article about how your Apple mobile device can track your location and allow you to see the places that you have been to recently - a feature called Significant Locations. (Here is that article for those who missed it.)
A feature of the Privacy & Security area of Settings (introduced in iOS/iPadOS 14 in 2021), is the ability to only grant approximate location permission to apps, so that they can't store your precise location. This one is particularly relevant to parents whose children use Apple mobile devices. It allows them to ensure that their child does not inadvertently give out location information to someone they shouldn't. Learn where to find this setting and how to ensure it can't be changed.
It is the time of year when Mac users will often ask me whether they should 'bite the bullet' and upgrade their Mac to the latest version of the operating system, called macOS Ventura 13. In fact macOS Ventura 13.2 is now available, after an update was released in the past week or so.
Here's a check list to help you decide if you should proceed with the upgrade. If you have a web page that you access on a regular basis, a handy feature on your iPad and iPhone is that you can make that web page appear as a App on your Home Screen.
Then, whenever you want to access that web page, all you need to do is to tap on that App - and you will be taken straight to that web page in the Safari App. 20/1/2023 0 Comments Why doesn't my Sent mail sync between my iPhone and Computer when it is set up as IMAP?A reader of one of iTandCoffee's articles about setting up an Optusnet email account so that it syncs between devices (here's the link) has found that, even after following the instructions and getting his emails to successfully sync, he had an outstanding problem with his Sent Mail.
Here's what he said: "Brilliant article on how to set up an IMAP account with Optusnet. Thank you for going to the trouble. You make up for Optus' long term poor customer support! The fact it's taken them years to come to the IMAP "party" says it all. Unfortunately, I still can't get my Mac devices to sync (iOS/iPadOS 16.2 and 10.15.7) - IN is OK but SENT won't sync. Might the outgoing server settings have changed since you wrote this article? And what's the difference between the SENT folder and the SENT MAIL folder?" I know there are several clients who have spoken to me in the past few months about whether to upgrade their current MacBook Pro - and I suggested that it might be worth waiting until Apple releases the M2 version of the MacBook Pro range (as Apple has already releases new MacBook Airs with the latest greatest M2 chip, so it seemed likely they would soon offer the same in the MacBook Pro).
It is frustrating to have just purchased the 'latest', only to find that a new 'latest' arrives just after your purchase. Normally, new Apple product announcements in the first half of the year occur around March - and this is when I was expecting news of the new MacBook Pros. But in a break from their normal timing, Apple has announced some new products during the past week - including the new M2 MacBook Pros. Over the holiday break, this little bee has been busy updating and uploading a range of iTandCoffee books (10 in fact!) to reflect latest features and screens from macOS Ventura and iOS/iPadOS 16.
These new editions books are now available in the iTandCoffee Online Store in both PDF and Paperback format. The PDF versions are, of course, available for FREE DOWNLOAD by those of you who have Online or Premium membership of the iTandCoffee Club (grab the Coupon Code here). (The total value of these new free downloads is $249!) Here's the list of latest edition books to choose from - including the newly uploaded PDF version of the new Guided Tour of the Apple Watch, released in December 2022. It's that time of year again, where so many parents are having to put on their 'IT' hat and set up devices for the upcoming school year.
If the device that you are setting up for your child is an iPad or iPhone, there is a list of things that you need to consider when setting up these devices. We have put pen to paper (or fingers to the keyboard) and written up a list to help you. Select the button below to view this checklist. I do love using iCloud to store and sync my photos. I regularly use Shared Albums to share sets of photos with other family members and friends.
But one thing that has always been lacking has been the ability to share a photo library with your partner (and, perhaps, with other members of your family). I would to be able to share a large number of my photos with my husband without having to create such Shared Albums. The good news is that sharing of an entire photos library is now provided as an option in iOS/iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura. With the start of another year, it is time to consider whether you have adequate protection for your precious photos, videos and other data that is stored on your computer.
The Mac provides a built-in backup utility called Time Machine - providing an easy way of performing a regular backup. Up until recently, the Time Machine utility took a 'one size fits all' approach to backups - where backups would occur every hour while the external backup drive was available, as long as changes have occurred on the computer during that time. With the release of macOS Ventura in late 2022, it is now possible to customise the frequency of the backups - to choose between hourly, daily, weekly or monthly. For those of us who mainly use cloud storage for photos and file, a less frequent backup may be acceptable. |
