We covered such an impressive range of topics at our Free Friday on Friday 20th July - all in just one hour! Once again, it was a great session - thanks to the members who came along.
The video of this session is now available for iTandCoffee Club members with Plus, Online or Premium membership. The video has been edited to include clear on-screen demonstrations of the topics that we discuss.

The Apple and Android mobile devices have a feature called Do Not Disturb, allowing you to set up a schedule of 'quiet hours' where your device will not make any noises, flash up notifications, or vibrate. The Do Not Disturb mode can also be manually activated at any other time that you need device to be quiet.
Thanks Simone R for this suggestion for the iTandCoffee Newsletter, telling us about an app that we should all have on our smartphones
"I just completed my first aid refresher course today and they got us to download this app. It’s awesome, especially the locality guide which gives latitude & longitude numbers for your location; particularly good if you’re out bush or at the MCG apparently!!!"
Just yesterday, I met with a client who had suffered a business disaster. The web developer who looked after hosting of her website and her mail had suffered a major cyber-attack, one that resulted in the loss of not only her complete website, but also all of her business mail.
Because her Mail account was installed as an IMAP style of mail account, one that synchronises across all devices, the loss of the mail by her mail host meant that she also lost the mail from the iPad and iPhone on which she relies for all her business communications.
While the loss of the email history is a disaster for her, even more of disaster is the loss of the contact information that was held in that mail.
You may have heard in the press this week about the new My Health Record system that will be available from October 15th 2018, where our health records may be available to up to 900,000 health professionals around Australia.
Over the past week, there have been a couple of significant announcements from Apple that we know will impact many of our clients and subscribers.
Many Telstra Bigpond email users have the frustration of having to manage their mail on multiple device. When they read, delete or send an email on one device, this does not reflect on their other device/s. This type of email account is called POP.
These days, most people prefer mail accounts to be of the type IMAP.
IMAP mail accounts synchronise between all devices, so that you don't have to 'double-handle' your mail, and so that you can see your sent mail on all your devices. The Webmail version of the mail account (which you can access via your web browser) shows the same set of mail as your device/s.
Some mail services support both POP and IMAP. It is how your mail account is installed on your device that determines whether it will be a POP or IMAP style account - and therefore whether your mail will sync across devices.

A client recently asked if there is an easy way that she can write an email in English and have it convert to and send in the native language of the recipient. In her case, she has a Dutch friend to whom she would like to send an email in Dutch.
Once again, the answer is "yes there is" and "there is an app for that".

If English is not your native language, or if you are learning a new language, you may want to be able to convert a web page that is written in English into a different language.
This is easy to achieve on your iPad and iPhone using the Safari app.
