A client contacted iTandCoffee this week after she discovered all her mail had gone missing. Her problem occurred on the Mac, but the same thing can happen in Mail on the iPad or iPhone.
In her Mail app on the Mac, the Inbox showed no items - and neither did the Sent Mail. Even the Deleted mailbox showed nothing. The reality was that her mail was not gone - it was just hidden. So let's look at what can make all that mail disappear suddenly in the Mail app on Mac, iPhone and iPad - and how to bring it back again.

Getting scammed is an extremely distressing experience - and three iTandCoffee clients suffered that terrible experience recently.
One client found that someone had gained access to a range of her social media accounts - and had even changed the password and email address for one of these, so she was no longer able to access it. Another client fell for a scam call, and the scammers initiated transfers of thousands of dollars - which were luckily stopped by her bank. The third client received as strange message on her screen - saying she had a virus and to call the number provided, which she did. Let's look at what happened in each of these cases - and what lessons can be learned from each. 16/12/2021 0 Comments Quickly change the size and type of an image file with this new macOS Monterey featureLast Newsletter, we included a handy hint and a more detailed video about some of the changes that arrived with macOS Monterey.
We continue our look at these Monterey changes - with this week's handy hint looking at a particular feature that allows really quick resizing and format change to an image. For example, this change allows you to really quickly change an heic format photo from the iPhone into jpg or png. Plus, read on for how to access the video of all the changes described by the slide above. 15/12/2021 0 Comments Another round of updates before Christmas - iOS/iPadOS 15.2 and macOS Monterey 12.1For the Apple device users out there, there is a fresh round of updates to download and install in the leadup to Christmas.
On the iPad/iPhone, iOS/iPadOS 15.2 is now available. Not only does this new version deliver some great new features, it also includes some important security updates. Similarly, macOS Monterey 12.1 delivers equivalent changes for the Mac. I only just discovered this the other day, even though it has been available in Chrome now for a few months.
(I am mainly a Safari user, but use Chrome as an alternate browser when doing Microsoft 365 support for other businesses.) You can generate a QR code directly from Chrome on your computer - no need for any third party product, and no cost involved. In September, I was interviewed by Dinah Rowe-Roberts and Mia Northrop for their Podcast, Life Admin Life Hacks, where the topic was Essential Digital Life Admin Tools. This Podcast was released on December 1, 2021.
In the interview, they asked me for my tips about all sorts of topics - which I have listed below. The link to this Podcast is also included below. We talked for over 30 minutes. But there were some questions that we did not get to, or could not cover fully. So I have included my prepared set of notes/answers for our iTandCoffee Club members. 2/12/2021 0 Comments How to stop certain apps or processes starting every time my Windows computer startsAfter upgrading my spare PC to Windows 11 recently, I found that the Google Backup and Sync app had changed and needed to be replaced. But that old app was still trying to start up every time my computer started, forcing me to close multiple pop-up screens every time I started up.
On the computer, I didn't want to use this Google cloud service any more, so needed to stop this automatic startup every time. Here's how to do this. 2/12/2021 0 Comments A quick look at Windows 11I have installed Windows 11 on a spare Windows PC, and started taking a look at the changes it has brought.
I have recorded a short video that takes a look at this upgrade - the changes in the task bar, finding the Wi-Fi settings, and the new look of File Explorer. A client asked me yesterday if I could suggest an app that would be better for managing his busy schedule. He had been using tick lists in Notes, but was finding that tasks were being missed because he kept forgetting to check his Notes.
He really needed to be able to be reminded about tasks when they were due. There is definitely a solution - and it does not require downloading of any third-party app. There is a built-in app on the iPad, iPhone and Mac that can do exactly what this client needs - and more. Even better, you don't even have to type in your task details! You can just speak to your device to add to your list of time sensitive tasks. If you are a Mac user, there are some great new features that have arrived in macOS Monterey - which was released in October 2021.
The picture shown here gives an indication of just some of the changes - and is taken from a video we have recorded for iTandCoffee Club members. |
