Other apps provided by third party suppliers - for example Microsoft's Office products - are also no longer supported on older versions of the Mac operating system, again leaving vulnerabilities and issues unpatched.
Just this past week, Microsoft advised that from September 2021, they will no longer support OneDrive under Sierra and High Sierra. If you rely on OneDrive as your cloud storage service, I would suggest it is definitely time to look at upgrading your macOS if you are still on a version prior to Mojave. Otherwise you may find your OneDrive becomes unstable on that Mac and may even cease to operate.

Apple has recently announced some details about the next operating systems if iPads, iPhones and Macs - which will arrive later this year (usually around Sept-Oct).
There were a few features that stood out for me. You may have read in the press in the last couple of weeks that there is now a new series of Macs available - MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini - and these new Macs no longer use Intel Chips. Instead, Apple has developed its own chip - a high performance chip called M1.
So, if you are in the market for a new Mac right now, should you consider getting one of these new Macs? 25/11/2020 0 Comments Mac Mail is constantly crashingJust this week, iTandCoffee has assisted two different clients who had the same problem - that their Mac Mail app just constantly crashed. Every time they clicked the Inbox, the app would immediately close.
Both clients had the same operating system - OS-X El Capitan. Here's what we had to do to fix the problem. I have helped a couple of clients just this week who have had problems with the Mail app on their Mac - a problem that we were unable to solve because it seemed to relate to the out-of-date version of their Mac operating system.
Both clients were still using the 5-year-old Mac OS-X El Capitan. The Mail app was continually crashing, making it impossible to use. (Read more about this issue here). So we needed to upgrade their Mac operating system to a newer version - something that was worth doing for more reasons than just fixing this single app problem. There are lots of new features and fixes delivered by newer versions of the Mac operating system - and more problems are likely to arise in future from running a 'too old' version of the operating system.
Apple has, in the last few hours, announced its new range of iPhones - the iPhone 12 series.
The good news is that their pricing for the new models will be the same as that which applied to the 11 series. If you don't need to get that latest/greatest, you can save $200 on what you would have paid last week for the iPhone 11 64GB model - $999 now instead of the $1,199 price tag I reported in my recent article, What iPhone should I get? And should I get one now?. What's new/different?
When did you last do a backup of your Mac?
If your answers is 'what is a backup?', 'never' or 'ages ago', you are putting yourself at serious risk of losing irreplaceable photos and files if something happens to that Mac. An iTandCoffee client I visited this week can attest to to the stress that can result from a damaged computer. My very own iMac suffered a major problem just recently, and had to be restored from a backup. It can happen to any of us.
iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 include lots of features - but here a just a few that stand out for me. I will features others in future articles.
macOS Catalina has been on the scene for a few months now, and over that time has had several 'fix' updates to resolve early issues.
In fact, for those of you who have already upgraded, version 10.15.3 was released in late January - so it is worth ensuring that you have installed this latest update to Catalina. For those of you who haven't upgraded yet, it is time to think about upgrading - but there are some key things to consider before you do. 30/10/2019 0 Comments Read this if you use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) on a MacA warning to Mac users who are running Microsoft Office 2011 or earlier: if you upgrade to the new macOS Catalina, you will lose access to these Office apps and have to purchase the new Office 365 suite.
Even worse, you could lose the Outlook folders and messages that were stored on your Mac (if you were using MS Outlook for your mail). |
