A warning to Mac users who are running Microsoft Office 2011 or earlier: if you upgrade to the new macOS Catalina, you will lose access to these Office apps and have to purchase the new Office 365 suite.
Even worse, you could lose the Outlook folders and messages that were stored on your Mac (if you were using MS Outlook for your mail).
In the past fortnight, I have helped a client who, after spending long hours on the phone with Microsoft and Apple, had been unable to recover his Outlook data - essential data from his business and personal life.
He had upgraded to macOS Catalina without realising the impact it would have on his Mac's older software. Unfortunately, he had not taken a new backup before doing this upgrade.
Luckily, he had a backup from 3 weeks earlier that I could use to recover most of his lost data - otherwise, what seemed a simple upgrade of the Mac would have resulted in the loss of so much. He had to first purchase the new version of the Microsoft Office products, as the old versions of the products were no longer accessible.
Another business client also lost access to her Office apps after the upgrade - and called on iTandCoffee to assist with upgrading the Office products and re-enabling her access to these apps.
Need help with any of this?
If you have already found yourself in a similar position and need help to navigate a maze like this - including gaining an understanding of what options are available when it comes to Microsoft and Office 365 - book a time with iTandCoffee here.
We can do phone consultations, can use a tool called Teamviewer to help you remotely, or can arrange a face-to-face consolation at your place or ours (depending on where you live, of course).
And, if you do plan to upgrade to macOS Catalina, make sure you take a backup first. Here's an article on the topic of backups from earlier this year.
