An iTandCoffee Client asked recently if there was an easy way to 'grab' some information off a piece of paper (in her case, it was a long ticket number that she wanted to paste in a field on a web page), to avoid the need for her to transcribe the long number manually.
There is an easy way to do this using the Camera app on the iPhone.

My husband asked me to investigate a problem that was really bugging him about his iPhone.
He kept missing text messages because his phone did not 'ding' during the day. In fact, he had missed two important texts from me during the week!! It was certainly 'dinging' first thing in the morning when he received regular daily texts (Wordle results from friends!), but for the rest of they day he was not hearing the arrival of any messages. Here's why. When you get a notification on your locked iPhone or iPad, does that notification show a 'preview' of the content of the notification? For example, if you get a verification code sent as a text to your iPhone, does the code show even though the screen is locked? Or does it perhaps show the content of messages from others - messages that you may sometimes not want read by someone else who can see your device's screen? For my own devices, I choose to only show previews of notifications when my iPhone and iPad are unlocked. When the devices are locked, I see a notification appear and see who it is from, but no other details of the notification are shown. Here's how to adjust your device's notification settings to protect your own security and privacy. 2/9/2023 0 Comments Quickly translating any email I receive - via Outlook on the iPhone, iPhone or MacI received a formatted email yesterday which was not in English.
I could select text from the email and see the translation, but the layout of the email made this a bit trickier. What I really wanted was a quick way to translate the whole email from Portuguese to English - as I may be getting more such emails in because of a trip we are taking soon. Here's how this can be easily achieved. In the Travelling with Technology videos and book by iTandCoffee, there is a chapter dedicated to 'Getting around' - navigation tips and apps, organising tours, trains, and handy websites.
Also included in this chapter is a page dedicated to using your Apple Watch's compass app to 'trace your steps' and 'set waypoints' - features that I will be trying out during our upcoming overseas trip!
I have to confess that until a couple of months ago, I didn't realise that there was a myGov mobile phone app in the App Store and Google Play store.
I think it was released in December last year. It is certainly much easier to use the app to check your myGov messages - when you get an email notifying you to check your myGov inbox. And you can add your medicare card and any other concession cards to the wallet. If you want to download it to your own mobile device, here's where to find it At last week's appointments, there were several instances where discussion turned to the topic of cloud storage and which cloud to use.
In one case, I recommended the client use iCloud Drive. In the other case, I recommended the client use Microsoft's OneDrive. Why would I choose one cloud service over the other? In a separate Handy Hint, we look at how you can hide photos on the iPad, iPhone and Mac - so that they are not visible in other views. Instead, they are found in a Hidden album that is password (Face ID/Touch ID) protected, providing a great way of keeping sensitive images secure.
Here is where to find that Handy Hint: Hiding photos that you don't want visible in your Photos timeline A client of iTandCoffee was making use of this feature on the iPad and iPhone, but when she came to her Mac, she could not see the Hidden album in the sidebar - so could not get to those hidden photos. Here's how this was quickly fixed. 7/8/2023 1 Comment Imminent closure of iiNet, TPG, Internode, Westnet, Netspace, and Ozemail email services
I have been contacted in the last week by several people, in relation to concerning communications they have received about the imminent closure of their TPG-owned email service. The closure is impacting users of iiNet, TPG, Internode, and Westnet email addresses. Most likely it also impacts TPG-owned Netspace and Ozemail email accounts.
If you received such an email, please not ignore this email - it is not a scam. There is not much time for users of these email services to act to avoid losing their email accounts and, potentially, all their email history. You can't just do nothing (unless the email address is one that you no longer use, and that you are happy to see disappear). |
