7/8/2023 1 Comment Imminent closure of iiNet, TPG, Internode, Westnet, Netspace, and Ozemail email services
I have been contacted in the last week by several people, in relation to concerning communications they have received about the imminent closure of their TPG-owned email service. The closure is impacting users of iiNet, TPG, Internode, and Westnet email addresses. Most likely it also impacts TPG-owned Netspace and Ozemail email accounts.
If you received such an email, please not ignore this email - it is not a scam. There is not much time for users of these email services to act to avoid losing their email accounts and, potentially, all their email history. You can't just do nothing (unless the email address is one that you no longer use, and that you are happy to see disappear).

28/7/2023 0 Comments A new feature has arrived for OneDrive on Mac - Backup of Desktop and DocumentsI noticed a new option in the settings for OneDrive on my Mac just recently - the ability to set up OneDrive to back up your Mac's Desktop and/or Documents folder. Previously, this backup feature was only available for OneDrive on a Windows computer.
In this handy hint, we take a look at this OneDrive feature, why you might choose to use it and how to enable/manage it. 28/7/2023 0 Comments A fun app with an 'aging filter' for seeing what a person looks like older or youngerI was listening to a Podcast recently, and they were talking about a viral aging filter/effect that was being used on TikTok, where people were applying this filter/effect and then sharing what the what the older version of themselves will look like.
I was taking a long car ride last weekend, so I decided to get the app that provides this aging filter and have a play with it. Here are the results. Our newer iPhones now support use of two SIMs at once - meaning that you can have two mobile numbers active at the same time, or perhaps choose to have one of the SIMs as a data-only SIM.
A lot of people will only make use of dual SIMs when they are travelling - to use a SIM purchased for overseas use. It can be confusing working out how to manage these SIMs - switching between them, controlling data roaming, choosing which SIM is used for messages and calls when two numbers are active, and more. I was recently asked by an iTandCoffee Club member about whether I would recommend that she use a particular ad blocker on her iPhone and iPad.
I haven't been using any ad blockers myself and suggested to her that she probably didn't need one - and especially didn't need to pay for one. But then I figured it was worth doing some further research on this topic, to understand why one might install an ad blocker, and then look at which I would install if I was to use one. One of the most read article topics on the iTandCoffee website relates to setting up either an Optus or Telstra email account as an IMAP email address instead of POP, so that the emails will synchronise across all devices. Here are those articles:
I have lost count of the number of times I have heard from clients who come across these articles after they have spent hours and hours on the phone with Optus or Telstra, all to no avail. One such reader of iTandCoffee's Optusnet article has just contacted iTandCoffee, and provided the below feedback - illustrating the frustration experienced by so many other customers of Optus and Telstra. Here's what she said: 12/7/2023 0 Comments Word Tip: How to slightly compress a paragraph's text so that it will fit on a pageThis is something that I do so regularly, as part of preparing my books for publication.
I have just been updating the Travelling with Technology (iPhone & iPad Edition) book (available in both Paperback and Digital format) to include a section that provides further detail of how to manage dual SIMs in your iPhone, especially when you travel. All my books are written in Microsoft Word, and exported to PDF before uploading to my publisher's website. As part of the process of finalising such a book, I always go through page by page, checking the images and paragraphs and looking for cases where I want to adjust the paging forcing a page break (Control-Return/Enter on Windows, Command-Return on Mac) or by forcing part of a paragraph that has been split across two pages to appear on the same page - or even try to get a whole paragraph to move back a page, as shown in the example in the image above. Adjusting the split or paging for the paragraph is done by slightly compressing the text in that paragraph and/or in other paragraphs on the page (since it may be other paragraphs that can take up less lines, thereby making more room for the page's last paragraph. A new set of features arrived in the Weather app as part of iOS/iPadOS 16 in 2023 - the Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation notifications. These notifications can be for your current location, or for other nominated locations.
However, up until just recently, these alerts were not available for Australian locations. This has now changed, and Australia is now included in the list of locations that support such alerts. 30/6/2023 2 Comments My All Inboxes has disappeared from Mail - how to get it back, and manage FavouritesIf you are a Mac Mail user who has more than one Mail account, you will hopefully make good use of the All Inboxes option in the Favourites section of the sidebar - allowing you to see all incoming mail in one place, or see each Inbox individually underneath the All Inboxes heading.
But what if this All Inboxes disappears - or if you've never had it? How do you enable (or re-enable) this? A client who visited iTandCoffee last week needed help with her mail password. She wanted to add the account to her new iPhone and iPad, but did not know the password. Her Mac 'knew' the password and allowed her to manage her mail, but she couldn't find a record of that password.
This is a very common problem, especially for mail accounts that have been in use for a long time. If you are not sure of your email account password, your Mac may allow you to look it up - and save you a call to your email provider. If your mail is with the likes of Optus or Telstra, it is certainly a relief to save yourself from such a call! |
