A client who visited iTandCoffee last week had a frustrating problem with her much-loved scanner, an Epson DS-560.
This scanner really is amazing - able to scan two sides at once and is SO fast. If you have heavy-duty scanning needs, it's really worth considering.
However, our client found that, as soon as she upgraded her Mac to High Sierra, the Scan app associated with her Espon scanner would crash every time she tried to change the destination location for her scans
She has been scanning historical business documents into various Dropbox locations, so that these documents can be shared with her accountant - so it is important that she be able to set this location each time she scans.
Updating the scanner's driver did not provide a solution. Tricky!
It turned out that the problem was that the Desktop and Documents folders had been moved to iCloud when she upgraded. Many people have found that this happened during the upgrade - without them realising that they chose an option to approve such a move.
When we moved her Desktop and Documents folders out of iCloud, the Scan app behaved itself again - much to our client's relief.
So, if you too have encountered problems with a scanner after upgrading your Mac, it might be worth looking at whether it could be because iCloud is now looking after your Desktop and Documents - whether that was an intentional choice you made or not.
