(Authors' note: This article was initially published several years ago - back in 2017 - and is one of the most frequently accessed articles if the iTandCoffee blog. We feature it again in May 2022, with updates included from various readers of the blog over the years.) Do you find that your phone just doesn't ring for long enough? This is an issue we get asked about very regularly, so I am re-publishing this article for our newer subscribers. (Not a subscriber? Subscribe here to get our great fortnightly newsletter.) Solve this problem by extending the number of seconds that the phone rings, using a series of numbers and symbols on the phone's keypad. Here are the instructions for each of the main Telcos:
Examples: To extend Telstra rings to 30 seconds, enter **61*101**30# then the call/send button To extend Optus rings to 30 seconds, enter **61*321**30# then the call/send button To extend Vodafone rings to 30 seconds, enter **61*121*11*30# then the call/send button If you have different mobile phone service provider to those listed, just try entering a Google search phrase like "extend the ring time for your mobile vodafone” (replacing 'vodafone' with the name of your mobile service provider) and find an answer to this question in the listed Google results. Updates: Thanks for all the comments in response to this article. It should be noted that the above codes will deal with calls that are not answered. Different codes apply if you are looking to divert to voicemail on 'busy' or 'unavailable'. As an example, for Telstra calls to divert to voicemail if you are on the phone, key in **67*101# then the call/send button. For Optus, key **67*321# and the call/send button. Below are suggestions from readers, for those who have Vodafone and Belong services.

The right option for Vodafone is **61*121*11 (number of seconds: 15, 20, 25 or 30)#

I could only get it to work for Vodafone via the My Vodafone App. I had to increase the time before it went to "Call Forwarding"

15 seconds is the default time used by Vodafone. You didn't change it.

Anyone have the codes for Belong (Not Telstra)?
Reply
Sorry Kevin - tried to work out that one for myself (as I have a second iPhone with Belong), but not sure it is possible. There is no Voicemail for Belong, and my understanding is the 'number of rings' delay relates to how long before it switches to Voicemail.

Belong is part of the Telstra network so you can use the Relates codes.

Relating to belong, the telstra codes work ans extend how long your phone rings but you no longer get voice to txt message for the caller. When the end of the call is reached it says "you do not have permission to use this service"

I suspect you have to turn off call forwarding. Check this article.

If anyone is still interested in the settings for Belong, it's the same method but you need to use the number that is in your settings for call forwarding, NOT the one listed under Voicemail. That number is 0418707111. So the code becomes: **61*0418707111** (number of seconds: 15, 20, 25 or 30) #. Then press the call/send button. You do need the zero surprisingly.

Belong have disabled the ability to alter the ring time before diverting to voice to text. It’s now just default to 15 seconds or turn off completely.

I just had a conversation with them about this topic and the only way they will modify it is if you have a medical condition or disability requiring longer to answer the phone: "However, we can action this only under extenuating circumstances such as mobility impairment or a medical condition requiring more time for you to answer the call."

Didn't work for Vodafone. Wanted to change from 15 to 30. As for the person who said it worked for 15 seconds, 15 seconds is Vodafone's default time.
