How to retrieve Telstra home voicemail remotely if 125102 is not working

Picture
Image by Travis Zimmerman from Pixabay
This one is for the Telstra home phone users out there.

I know that it is not so common any more to have a 'landline' via the NBN service, but I do - and use this number for business calls. My 1300 service forwards to this number, so it is important that I have access to the messages left when I am 'on the go'.

For quite a while, I had enjoyed the fact that, when someone left a voicemail message on Telstra's 101 service, I would receive a text alert on my mobile - and be able to tap the number provided in the message (125102) to listen to the message that was just left.

Recently this has changed! Partly good, partly not so good.

The good part is that I now get a text message that actually shows who called that home number (if a Contact called - otherwise I just get the number).

The bad part is that the message no longer provides the 125102 number to quickly tap and pick up the message. And the really bad part is that when I call 125102 and enter my phone number, I get told that my phone number is not valid!

So how do I now pick up the voicemails from my home service when I am on the go?
Phew - I found a solution.

Simply call your own number and then wait for the answering service to kick in.

As soon as you hear it, press #. Then enter your 6-digit voicemail PIN.

Easy. You will then be able to listen to all the voicemails that have been left, and to any previous voicemails that have not been deleted.

Thanks so much, in lockdown this was driving me crazy having to drive to the office, and no telstra are useless and have no idea. This is brilliant!

So glad the post was useful! So sad that Telstra don't know their own products. If iTandCoffee can ever be of future service, don't hesitate to contact us on 1300 885 420. Lynette

.. and .not just the practical fix, the unanswered messages, answered, but the frustration, dissipated, the wasted time, over.

Glad it helped Anthony, Sheldon and Sue! I know the stress of having to talk to Telstra about something like this, so hope this tip saves others from that trauma!!

Thanks for this workaround, its still not ideal but better than any solution I've received from Telstra. After multiple calls and hours being on hold they have given me absolutely nothing!

I have noticed that the name recording has been removed from messagebank by pressing 2 and been replaced by security option

I have message bank on my Telstra landline and do not have a pin set up on it. Can a third party access and retrieve messages on my message bank remotely from another number? I was subjected to cyber fraud some 18 months ago and am now investigating this possibility as one aspect of that fraud. Note, I only need a yes/no answer as I assure you that I'm not wanting to carry out such fraud should you give me the detail on how to do it! Telstra has not been able to help me. Thanks

Have you tried accessing your voicemail remotely from another phone and found that it doesn't ask you for a PIN? That would answer your question. Lynette from iTandCoffee

Thanks Lynette, I've tried that and it asks for the PIN only if the PIN was set on message bank beforehand. My question relates to no PIN being set on the message bank. It appears in that case there is no option to remotely access messages. But I'm asking if anyone has discovered a workaround to get the messages if no PIN is set. Thanks Eric

Sorry Eric, I'm not aware of any work-around if remote access has not been set up. Good luck. Lynette

If I'm trying overseas to retrieve my messages, would it still be the same format, do you know?

Hi Kerri. I haven't tried it, but I would think so! Just make sure you call. home with the +61 prefix. Lynette from iTandCoffee
