15/6/2021 0 Comments Quickly deleting files, folders and photos on the Mac - and how to delete characters to the right of your cursor position
One of the common questions asked during classes about the Mac relates to deleting files and folders - whether there is quick way to delete files, one that avoids having to drag the file/folder to the trash can at bottom right!
Just hitting the delete key on the keyboard doesn't allow such deletion. Another common question is about how to delete characters to the right on Mac given that, unlike with a Windows keyboard, there are not separate keys for 'backspace' and 'delete'. There is only the delete key, which deletes text to the left. Delete files, folders and photos
I must say that I never use the 'drag to trash' method of deleting files and folders.
Instead, I always use the keyboard shortcut, Command-delete. The combination of these two keys will delete the selected file/s and/or folder/s - sending them to the Trash. This same shortcut applies in the Photos app, for sending photos straight to Recently Deleted without requiring confirmation of the deletion. I always tell class members that the east way to remember this shortcut is to think about the fact that you are really insisting on the deletion by 'commanding to delete'! Delete characters to the right
Deleting characters to the right of your current cursor position is achieved by holding the fn key (bottom left of keyboard) as you press the delete key - ie. fn-delete
