In our 24 hours of seeing 3 different clients with email 'sending' issues, the third client's issue was with Outlook for Windows on his new Windows computer.
He was unable to send any emails from his Bigpond account - even though his Gmail account was working. A call to Microsoft Support had failed to resolve his issue.
My first thought was to remove and re-add the Bigpond account to clear whatever blockage was occurring.
However, on inspecting his email setup in Outlook, I found that his Bigpond account was installed as POP instead of IMAP. I didn't want to simply remove it, as the history of Sent mail would be lost.

It was at that point that I noticed that, in the Outbox for the Bigpond account, there was 'decline' response to an invitation that had been sent from a business Exchange server. It seemed that Outlook was unable to send this response.
We cleared out the Outbox of this item, as well as the other two 'test' emails we had tried to send.
Magically, this resolved the problem! Outlook could be closed and re-opened without an issue, and our test emails were able to be sent and received perfectly.
A 'flood' of Bigpond sending issues in one week
Within a period of less than 24 hours, iTandCoffee saw two other clients with Bigpond mail issues, all relating to sending of their emails.
