It's been a busy time for iTandCoffee over the summer break. During that time, there has been a lot of time spent working on a great new set of products that are now available from iTandCoffee - with more to come soon. The Introduction to the iPad and iPhone set of nine guides - which complement the 5-class iTandCoffee series of the same name - have been published and are now available as individual booklets, or as a full set of 9 booklets. Coming in the next couple of weeks will be the published guides for Bring your Busy Life Under Control using your iPad and iPhone and Understanding and Using iCloud, with more to follow very soon after than. These guides are a great way of learning more about your iPad and iPhone, and make a wonderful gift for beginners and seniors. If you are interested in purchasing one or more of these guides, email iTandCoffee at enquiry@itandcoffee.com.au or call 1300 885 420. (They will be available online at the iTandCoffee online store in the near future.)

I decided today that I wanted to put a together collage of a few photos of him from the time he was 3 up to this week - to show just how much this beautiful boy has changed. Co-incidentally, my daily reading of tech articles highlighted a particular app that is temporarily available for free - a photo collage creation app So I grabbed it, and was impressed with how easy it was to create my collage, as shown. For those of you who are interested, the app is called Moment Mix. Get Moment Mix from the App Store by selecting this link.
I must confess that, on nights where I wake up in the wee hours of the morning and can't go back to sleep, I do often pick up my iPhone and do some reading.
The light that is emitted is just so bright, so I immediately go to the Control Centre and turn down the brightness from there. But it is still too bright, even on the lowest 'brightness' setting. The iBooks app is has a very clever 'Auto-Night Theme' setting that detects low light, and inverts the display so that the background is black and the text white. It would be nice if this was available for other apps. Well, there is a way to turn the brightness down even lower than is possible via the Control Center brightness slider, and to quickly access a set of controls that allow you to temporarily invert the display for everything (as shown in the pic here. Here is an article I discovered this week that describes how to achieve this. There is a distinct theme to this week's articles I know. My technology has been suffering pre-Christmas kinnipshins (another technical term, which I'm not sure how to spell!). Over the past week or two, I noticed that my voicemail messages had suddenly stopped, and I was instead getting Telstra text messages from people who had called. If you use this feature, you will know that it can be pretty hard to interpret Telstra's voice-to-text translations! I'm not sure why this happened, and I couldn't face calling or 'chatting online' with Telstra. So, as with many problems that I encounter on the technology front, I Googled the answer to my problem. The problem was fixed by keying in a series of symbols and numbers on my iPhone, to restore my 'conditional call forwarding settings (Busy, No Answer, No Reply) to Messagebank®'. I entered **004*101# This set the default ring time to 15 seconds. Then, to set it back to 30 seconds so that I had longer to get to my phone, I followed the instructions in this earlier iTandCoffee Handy Hint: How do you extend the number of rings for your iPhone (or any other mobile phone)?
The different 'Clock' features are shown along the bottom of the screen. Tap the Alarm option (second from left) to view your existing alarms, to set new ones or remove those you don't need. To set a new alarm sound, just change the Sound associated with an existing alarm, or add a new alarm with the required Sound. This will cause all future alarms to use that same sound. Changing an existing alarmTo change an existing alarm, tap Edit at top right to, tap on one of the listed alarm times, tap on Sound, and choose the new Alarm sound The easiest way to add or remove an alarm is using SiriOf course, you can also set new alarms using Siri.
Just say 'Set an alarm for 10am', and Siri will add an alarm for 10am either today or tomorrow (depending on whether it is before or after 10am) and set the Alarm sound to be that which you last set. You can also say 'Set an Alarm for 6:30am each weekday'. Then, to delete that alarm, say 'Delete my 6:30 alarm'. Or 'Delete all alarms' to get rid of all of them.
On your iPad, just go to Settings -> FaceTime, and turn off the option Calls from iPhone. On your Mac, go to FaceTime -> Preferences and look for the same setting in the Settings section. Un-tick it to stop phone calls coming through to your Mac.
28/11/2015 0 Comments What are all those squares I see in Safari on my iPad and iPhone when I tap the Search bar? This question comes up at every iTandCoffee class about Safari. What are those squares that appear when you tap the 'Search or Website Address' bar at the top of the Safari screen on you iPad or iPhone (or even on your Mac). Well, these are your 'Favourite' websites. If you see the set that are shown on in the image here, you may think "They are not my favourites!". 28/11/2015 2 Comments Great ways of adding more storage to your iPad and iPhone - especially when you travelAre you constantly battling a full iPad or iPhone, struggling to free up storage so you can download new apps or take photos and videos? Do you need a way of 'offloading' photos and videos without needing to use a computer or 'the cloud'? Would you perhaps like to take a heap of kids movies away on a holiday to keep them entertained, but don't have room to store them on your iPad and iPhone This was one of the questions raised at the iTandCoffee FREE FRIDAY session on 20/11/15 - how do you create albums on an iPad and iPhone, and how do you then add photos to your album. So, that seems like a great topic for this week's Handy Hint Newsletter. I have put up a couple of short videos that show you all about how to create and manage albums on an iPad and iPhone. They are now available in the iTandCoffee Club Clubhouse for iTandCoffee Club members. If you are not yet a member of The iTandCoffee Club, it only costs $30 year to gain access to great hints, tips and tricks like this, as well as regular free/half-prices sessions, unlimited access to iTandCoffee's Handy Hint library, free videos of classes, slideshows of classes and more.
