18/2/2020 0 Comments How to change the date of a scanned photo on your iPhone or iPad, Mac and in Google PhotosIf you have ever scanned some old photos into your computer or mobile device, you will know the frustration of later trying to find these photos - especially if, like me, you have thousands of photos.
The date recorded against the photos (in the photo's 'metadata') will be the date they were scanned - which means the Photos app's timeline will show them on that date. So you have to remember when you scanned them (unless you have been clever enough to put them in a separate album, of course). Wouldn't it be great if you could put a more accurate date on these photos so that they appear in the Photos timeline in the correct year, on the date you specify?

A piece of information that I use on my Mac's screen all the time is the Date that shows at the top right of my menu bar.
Do you see the date on your own Mac? If not, check out this short handy hint for iTandCoffee Club members to see how easy it is to turn on this date.
We talked about this at this month's iPad and iPhone User Group, so thought I would share with the broader iTandCoffee reader base - just in case anyone else is not yet familiar with it.
So often, we struggle to find the app that we are looking for on our iPhone or iPad Home screen. A handy feature of our devices is something called the Spotlight Search - a quick and easy way of looking for ANYTHING that is on your iPad and iPhone. macOS Catalina has been on the scene for a few months now, and over that time has had several 'fix' updates to resolve early issues.
In fact, for those of you who have already upgraded, version 10.15.3 was released in late January - so it is worth ensuring that you have installed this latest update to Catalina. For those of you who haven't upgraded yet, it is time to think about upgrading - but there are some key things to consider before you do. I was in the middle of a remote support session with a business client, when the sound of bongo drums rang out loud!
I thought that it must have been one of my client's devices that did that, or that I somehow started some music by hitting some keyboard shortcut. But shortly after that appointment it happened again - and I realised that it was the 'alert' sound that my Mac was playing whenever a Message arrived! I had not knowingly changed that alert sound (and have no idea why it changed), but it definitely needed changing back to the original sound. Here's how this alert sound can be changed. 7/2/2020 0 Comments Finding out what passwords are stored by your iPhone, iPad or Mac - and seeing which ones are re-used or weakDid you know that your Apple device may be storing details of your passwords, for a variety of online sites and services?
This is so handy if you want your device to 'auto-fill' details so that you don't have to remember all those passwords. I do make use of this feature on all my devices. But you need to consider whether these passwords could be accessible to others who have access to your device. If you have a weak passcode/password protecting your device, this could also put your online security at risk. Let's take a look at where you can find out
7/2/2020 0 Comments When your Apple Watch keeps asking you to sign in to someone else's Apple ID ...I had a persistent issue recently, one that occurred 'out of the blue', whereby my Apple Watch was coming up with a request for me to sign in to my Apple ID - but where the Apple ID presented is someone else's Apple ID, someone I don't even know! Here's what I did to stop this.
So many weeks at iTandCoffee have a common theme, and theme for the past fortnight or so has been Wi-Fi issues and internet outages, at both iTandCoffee and for other clients.
Here at iTandCoffee, we have had a phone and internet outage lasting 5 days. This is following on from ongoing outages and dropouts for our NBN HFC service, which have persisted since the rollout of NBN started. Internet seems to finally be be back (touch wood) today, Thurs 6th Feb, but the phone is still not working. Luckily, our phone diverts to voicemail when there is an NBN outage - so clients can still leave messages if they call our 1300 number. What I have found when talking to people about their own internet outages and Wi-fi issues is that, quite often, there is a lack of understanding of what the lights on their router and NBN modem tell them about the their current service status. There is also the mis-conception that the Wi-Fi symbol on computer and mobile devices provides an indication of there being an internet connection. 23/1/2020 0 Comments How iTandCoffee made a client cryClient Judy Sellwood has recently created the online Christmas decorations business Purely Christmas, launching her business late last year. So, what was it that brought Judy to tears during last week's appointment with iTandCoffee - tears for which I take full responsibility? Judy was faced with the daunting task of doing her first post-Christmas stocktake - and needed to update a spreadsheet that listed all her stock. She also really needed to take pictures of all her stock of Christmas decorations and somehow link those images to the data in the spreadsheet. This was all falling in to the 'too hard' basket - especially when she was not very experienced at using a spreadsheet.
If you are a fan of the Photos App on the Mac, you can make your use of that app so much more efficient if you know the great set of 'keyboard shortcuts' that are available, for quickly performing actions that otherwise require moving of the mouse and clicking options!
There is a very long list of shortcuts you can use, but I thought I would just feature a few of my real favourites - because it is near on impossible to remember more than those few! |
