Club member Bruce B has asked today if there is a way that you can get back to the top of your Inbox without having to swipe repetitively.
The good news is that there is.

I know that I have cautioned everyone about issues with iOS 13, but there is a new feature that is really handy in the Mail app.
You can now scan a document (single or multi-page) straight into an email in the Mail app - using a new 'scan' feature that is able to detect document edges and automatically scan/crop and create a single or multi-page PDF. With a feature like this build right in to your iPhone (and iPad), there should be very little (or no) need for a separate scanning device these days. I have a scanner built into my printer, but never use it any more. If you have ever emailed a particular email address from your Mail app - or received an email from that email address - your Mail app will keep a 'memory' of those email addresses.
While this can be very handy when you are drafting an email, allowing suggestions to appear as you start typing the email address, it can also be a cause of frustration and confusion if more than one suggestion appears for the person you are emailing - especially if you are not sure which one is correct or the latest. If you have ever spelled an email address incorrectly, this email may show in the list of suggestions. Even if you have removed an old email address for the person from your Contacts (or perhaps have removed the person completely), the old email address may still appear when you type a few characters of the person's name. So how do you get rid of any email addresses that you no longer want to see in Mail's suggestion?
At the iPad and iPhone User Group this month, we looked at how you can sign a PDF on your iPad/iPhone using your finger or a stylus, and send the document back to whence it came!
One of the attendees had a document that she needed to sign and return to her travel agent - but found that the document was in .doc (ie Word) format instead of PDF. She could tap it to download and view, but could not use the markup feature to add her signature. We looked at how she could easily turn that 'non-PDF' document into a PDF, so that she could then add her signature, and send it back to her travel agent. In a separate article we looked at how to send a Word document from the Word App on the iPad and iPhone.
But how do you do the same from the Pages app on these devices? A great productivity tip - and one that really helps to keep a busy email Inbox under control - is to create Reminders (or Tasks) from your Mail messages, so that you can quickly and easily follow up on emails that need some sort of action.
In a couple of separate articles, I have covered the topic of how to create Tasks (ie. Reminders) from email messages in Outlook for Mac, and how to ensure you can see these Tasks/Reminders on your mobile device. Here are the links to these articles:
However, many Mac owners use the Mail app on their Mac rather than Microsoft's Outlook app. For these users, the question is whether there is a way of quickly creating a Reminder from an email. The answer is "Yes there is!".
One of the topics discussed at Friday's iPad and iPhone user group related to image sizes, and how to adjust the size of images you send.
In a week that featured multiple clients with problems sending emails - which, co-incidentally were all Bigpond emails - one client had an issue where, all of a sudden, her Outlook for Windows app would not allow her to send emails
A client at iTandCoffee today had a puzzling error on her iPhone that was preventing her from sending any emails from her Bigpond email account.
The error she started getting only a few days earlier was 'The recipient "recipient-email-address" was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying'. Just yesterday, I met with a client who had suffered a business disaster. The web developer who looked after hosting of her website and her mail had suffered a major cyber-attack, one that resulted in the loss of not only her complete website, but also all of her business mail.
Because her Mail account was installed as an IMAP style of mail account, one that synchronises across all devices, the loss of the mail by her mail host meant that she also lost the mail from the iPad and iPhone on which she relies for all her business communications. While the loss of the email history is a disaster for her, even more of disaster is the loss of the contact information that was held in that mail. |
